The goal of this book is to provide veterinary students and practitioners with a useful resource for diagnosing and surgically managing cataracts in dogs. Although primarily focused on cataracts in dogs, the procedures outlined in the book can be adapted for other pet and farm animals with some modifications.

The book is composed of 11 chapters, including an introduction, an overview of lens anatomy, a definition of cataract, an examination of the incidence of cataracts, a discussion of the causes of cataracts, a review of the pathogenesis of cataracts, a classification of cataracts, a section on diagnosis, a guide to selecting patients for surgery, a detailed description of surgical management, and a review of potential complications associated with cataract surgery.

Each chapter provides clear, concise information that is easy to understand and understand. The inclusion of color photographs of procedures and instruments will aid practitioners in their diagnosis and surgical management of cataracts.

Suresh Kumar Jhirwal, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology is serving at College of Veterinary and Animal Science, Bikaner, Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bikaner, since July 2014 after completing his successful tenure of 13 years and 7 months in the Department  of Animal Husbandry, Government of Rajasthan.

After joining the University as an Assistant Professor he proved his work excellence as a Veterinary surgeon by contributing in new techniques i.e. Cataract surgery in dogs by Phacoemulsification and IOL implant using an operating microscope. He became the first Veterinary Surgeon of Rajasthan state to perform successful cataract surgery by phacoemulsification method in dogs.

His work was recognised by the Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bikaner, District administration, Bikaner, Government of Rajasthan, and many other organizations by felicitating him on various occasions. In due course, he strengthened his skill and presented his work of ophthalmology on different platforms, and disseminated the knowledge. He won three consecutive GOLD MEDALs for best papers in the field of veterinary ophthalmology at the Annual congress of the Indian Society for Veterinary Surgery from 2017-2019. He has guided 14 students in their masters’ research out of which 11 conducted their research in the field of ophthalmology. He has 92 scientific publications to his credit and attended many conferences/symposiums/workshops of National and International repute. He is a member of six Scientific National and International organizations.
He is a popular invited expert to deliver offline delete or online technical lectures/webinars on different topics for veterinary ophthalmology. He is committed to develop the diverse specialities of veterinary ophthalmology in a long way.
