The books presents a science-driven, solution-focused, and globally relevant exploration of one of the world’s most urgent environmental and social challenges. At a time when the textile and fashion industries face intense scrutiny for their contributions to climate change, water pollution, chemical toxicity, and labor exploitation, this book provides a hopeful yet realistic roadmap for transforming the sector. It traces the textile lifecycle from raw fiber production to garment disposal, highlighting intervention points where meaningful change can be achieved.
The book delves deeply into sustainable fibers—organic cotton, hemp, bamboo, jute, banana, and next-generation biopolymers—while presenting regenerative agriculture as a powerful tool for soil restoration, carbon sequestration, and rural livelihood enhancement. Synthetic fibers are addressed through an innovation lens, covering advanced recycling, depolymerization, and circular manufacturing systems.
Equally central is the human dimension. The book underscores labor rights, ethical sourcing, gender equity, and transparency as essential pillars of sustainability. It explores how conscious consumption, behavior change, and responsible fashion models—rental, repair, resale—can reduce waste and reshape markets.
Anchored in the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the book offers practical strategies, case studies, and frameworks for circularity, enabling students, researchers, designers, policymakers, and industry professionals to actively participate in building a cleaner, fairer, and regenerative textile future.
