The current book titled "Commercial Plant Breeding- 2- Field Crops" is a continuation of the earlier book "Commercial Plant Breeding-1-Vegetable Crops."

Part I of the book consists of 11 chapters that provide a fundamental understanding of commercial plant breeding, the structure of research and development in commercial organizations, such as private seed companies, the field crops seed business, and international agricultural research centers working on field crops improvement. Additionally, the book covers pertinent seed-related regulations and the global status of commercially available genetically modified crops.

Part II of the book focuses on commercial plant breeding of 14 major field crops of commercial interest, with an emphasis on genomics, phenomics, field-level hybrid seed production, and varieties and hybrids with significant acreage from both public and private sectors. The field crops included are rice, wheat, maize, pearl millet, sorghum, pigeonpea, chickpea, green gram, black gram, lentil, soybean, groundnut, rapeseed-mustard, and Bt cotton. The book also features a comprehensive glossary and an updated list of references. It is intended for a wide range of students enrolled in courses on commercial field crop breeding and serves as a valuable reference book for professionals across institutes and seed industries.
