This book is designed to fulfill the need for upcoming changes in geo-informatics and to provide a comprehensive text on digital technology in varying circumstances for students at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels. It will be of great use to students, scientists, extension workers, and teachers who need to understand the basic principles and applied aspects of digital mapping of natural resources. The book explains the processing of data using GIS and GPS with maximum accuracy in mind. It is divided into ten chapters that cover topics such as cartography, digital terrain analysis, aerial photography, topographical maps, drone technology, image processing, remote sensing, and remote sensing imagery. The book also includes suitable examples of these technologies being used in fields such as agriculture, soil conservation, geo-informatics, and mapping.
Adikant Pradhan completed under graduate and post-graduate in Agriculture from Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur and then joined as a scientist in All India Coordinated Research Project on Small Millets in 2003 and worked for 13 years in millet research with landform study and natural resource management for diverse form of crop and management aspects. Looking to the real time management of resources in research new dimension of modern tools like remote sensing, GIS and GPS based data analysis and finalizing programmes; meanwhile working on GIS and remote sensing he developed resource map of more than 500 villages of the region for better management of natural resource available in the rainfed area. For the next five years he served as Chief Scientist dealing in rainfed agriculture under All India Coordinated Research Project on Dryland Agriculture at S.G. College of Agriculture & Research Station, IGKV, Jagdalpur, again village level resource conservation of land and water resources have been successfully done. By using remote sensing technique and image processing all watersheds were delineated at micro level to plan for 500 to 700 hectares land of confined villages and delivered the findings to state and district level planning. For working in tribal and remote area he received ICAR-Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Award-2019 for outstanding research in tribal farming system as team leader where digital planning and application of remote sensing was widely used within time frame and faster way. Digital mapping also expanded while working in All India Coordinated Research Project on Integrated Farming at Krishi Vigyan Kendra where he studied the local waterbody mapping and irrigation water distribution system for efficient and useful utilization due to proper aerial photometry and developed digital maps.
He has over two decades of experience in teaching, research and extension with present and future prospect of rural agriculture. Dr. Pradhan has more than 50 scientific papers numerous international and national repute journals he also published 5 books and various articles on recent technologies to minimize the labour cost as well as time saving phenomenon. Under his supervision more than 20 Master students and 5 Ph. D. students have got degrees. Presently he is deeply involved in research of small level map of soil, land, topography and waterbody through drone technology and satellite imageries at micro level planning.
