The present book entitled “Plant Breeding and Genetics” deals with basic principles of plant breeding and genetics and is intended to serve as a text book for undergraduate students of B. Sc. Agriculture/B. Sc. Horticulture/B. Sc. Forestry/B. Sc. Fisheries/B. V. Sc. and A. H./B. Sc. Biotechnology/B. Sc. Biology. Since several chapters especially those dealing with statistical and biotechnological applications overlap considerably in plant breeding and genetics, this combined book will serve the needs of students undergoing a course in undergraduate genetics and/or plant breeding. Each chapter starts with definition and explanation of key terms, dwells upon the core issues of the chapter, using solved numerical problems and illustrations, wherever needed. At the end, there is a comprehensive glossary which is updated with modern developments. The book will be quite handy to UG students and even PG students will find it useful for understanding fundamentals of plant breeding and genetics

Dr. Hari Har Ram with an excellent academic career (I position in UP in Intermediate Exam, I position in Gorakhpur Univ. in B. Sc. Ag. Exam, I position in Masters and Ph. D. programmes in Pantnagar Univ. and I position in ICAR Senior Fellowship awardees on all India basis), completed his Masters and Ph. D. (Plant Breeding) from Pantnagar Univ. and Pot-Doc from Germany. He served for 33 years at Pantnagar University in various positions including Prof. and Head Vegetable Science, Joint Director Vegetable Research Centre, Coordinator Seed Science and Technology, and Vegetable Research, Nodal Officer Plant Genetic Resources Management, and General Manager Seed Production. After leaving Pantnagar, he served as Vice-President and Chief R&D for eight years in a vegetable seed company in Pune. Later on, he worked for two years as Consultant to UP Council of Agricultural Research, Lucknow. He has served several times FAO as International Consultant in Myanmar, Libya and DPR Korea. There are 9 released varieties of soybean, 26 varieties/hybrids of vegetable crops and two NBPGR registered novel vegetable germplasm lines to his credit during the university service. He has commercialized 39 cultivars/hybrids of vegetable crops in seed industry. He has authored 18 books, 260 research papers/conference proceeding papers/abstracts, 16 chapters in the books, and guided 25 Masters and 26 Ph. D. students. He has served as member in RACs and QRTs of several ICAR Institutes. His two books, Vegetable Breeding, and Crop Breeding and Biotechnology are immensely popular among students in State Agricultural Universities. He has visited Nepal, Germany, UK, Netherlands, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, Mongolia, Myanmar, Libya, North Korea, Egypt, Colombia, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia and China.
