This book serves as a hands-on guide to foundational laboratory techniques in veterinary parasitology and molecular biology, specifically tailored for students, interns, and early-career researchers entering lab-based veterinary diagnostics. Divided into three focused chapters, the book begins with essential laboratory practices, including correct lab conduct, familiarization with basic lab equipment, and the preparation of core reagents and solutions necessary for routine experiments.

The second chapter introduces key techniques in veterinary parasitology, such as proper sample collection and preservation, blood and fecal parasite detection, and the basics of serum biochemistry and immunodiagnostic assays. The third chapter provides a sequential understanding of molecular biology procedures relevant to parasitology research—ranging from DNA extraction and primer design to PCR amplification and sequence analysis.

In addition to theoretical instruction, the manual includes a practical appendix for equipment care, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance—ensuring efficiency and accuracy in day-to-day laboratory operations. This concise and structured resource supports skill development and diagnostic competence in modern parasitological and molecular veterinary laboratories.

Angughali Aheto Sumi completed her master’s in Food Biotechnology at the University of Abertay Dundee, Scotland, where she studied the role of circadian clock genes in potato tuberisation. She earned her PhD in Biomedicine from Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, with her research based at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), focusing on biophysical mechanisms driving morphogenesis. After a bridging postdoc at CRG, she pursued further postdoctoral work at Institut Fresnel, Marseille, on the biophysics of large-scale cell migration. She is currently a research fellow at ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Jharnapani, Nagaland.

Jayanta Kumar Chamuah, born at Dhakuakhana, Lakhimpur district of  a Assam, on 01-03-1979. He had completed BVSc & AH and MVSc in Veterinary Parasitology from College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara, Assam Agricultural University in 2002 and 2005; respectively. He was awarded University Merit Scholarship in both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. He has completed PhD degree in Veterinary Parasitology from ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar-243122 in 2014. He was also awarded  ICAR Net in 2008 and ARS in 2009 (Veterinary Parasitology) and also the recipient of ICAR-IVRI SRF for PhD in 2008. He has handled two External funded as a Principal Investigator and four as a Co-PI. He has also completed four institute projects as a Principal Investigated. He has published 20 international papers in a reputed Journal and 32 papers in National Journal. He prepared two technical bulletins, published two books and published four reviews in a reputed journal. He has registered two designs, seven copyrights registration to Intelectual Property Right office, Govt of India. Also three designs, three copyright, one trademark and one patents are under process in IPR office, Govt of India. He also commercialized two technologies to the stake holders. His interest in work is the molecular epidemiology of gastrointestinal parasites and proteomic works.

Binod Kumar obtained his B.V.Sc. and AH degrees from SVVU, Tirupati (College of Veterinary Science, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad) in 2008. He completed his postgraduate studies, both MVSc. and PhD, in Veterinary Parasitology from ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar, Bareilly, in 2010 and 2016, respectively. He was awarded an IVRI Research Scholarship during MVSc and an ICAR Senior Research Fellowship during PhD. He served as Assistant Professor in the College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Junagadh, Gujarat from 2012 to 2023, following he joined the College of Veterinary and Animal Science, Kishanganj, Bihar as Associate Professor in April 2023. He has published more than 60 research paper in peer-reviewed international journals and attended National and International seminars and symposia. He is also authored for five books and many book chapters. He is having a good knowledge of molecular parasitology and worked continuously for last 15 years on ticks and tick-borne diseases management in animals. He has successfully guided one MVSc and one Ph.D. student. He is awarded by 'Dr J. P. Dubey young scientist awards 2010' by IAAVP at Mumbai conference and Dr. N. S. Ruprah Memorial Oration Award-2023 by IAAVP at Hyderabad conference.
