The provides a comprehensive and up-to-date account of organic vegetable cultivation with a strong focus on Indian conditions. The book integrates scientific principles with practical field-level applications, making it a valuable resource for students, researchers, extension workers, and progressive farmers.
The volume begins with the fundamentals of organic vegetable production and systematically covers crop-specific cultivation practices for major vegetable groups such as solanaceous, cucurbitaceous, cole, leguminous, and tuber crops. It further explores essential components of organic farming systems, including green manuring, composting, vermicomposting, biofertilizers, and biopesticides, along with soil solarization and sustainable waste management strategies.
Special emphasis is placed on indigenous technical knowledge (ITK), natural farming approaches, and the role of botanicals and biocontrol agents in eco-friendly pest and disease management. The book also addresses regulatory frameworks governing organic agriculture and export standards in India, providing important insights for market-oriented production.
In addition, recent advances in research, innovative technologies, and practical guidelines—including do’s and don’ts for successful organic farming—are presented to enhance productivity, soil health, and environmental sustainability. This book serves as a holistic guide for developing resilient and sustainable organic vegetable production systems in the context of modern agriculture.
